Fall

This fall has been a busy one for us! We both have been working and going to school full time. We had sometime however to go hunting this fall. It was my very first year of hunting so I was pretty excited. Starting in October we traveled to Lyman to go hunting for my Antelope that I had drawn out for. The first weekend I missed every shot I took (not by a long ways) but the second weekend was a lucky one. We had been out all day Friday and didn't get anything (again I was missing). Finally, around 5:30 we saw a nice buck standing down at the bottom of this road. We decided to park the truck and walk slowly along this road and see how close it would let us get. Well to our surprise it let us go from about 330 yrds to 180 yrds! I pulled up as it watched me very closely and took my first shot at a monster buck antelope. I hit it behind the back leg, it buckled, and began to stagger around. Mark didn't think I had hit it until we watched it for a little while and it started acting funny. It began to run(hobble) towards us so I shot it again this time in the vitals. It walked down below into a small hay field, sat down, and I finished him off! I can't explain the feeling I had as I took down this huge buck on my very first year hunting. I was extatic. The next day we went deer hunting but didn't see a single deer. Mark then went up for elk for a couple weekends and I stayed at the house with Carilyn. I decided that there was not point to go and freeze if I didn't get to shoot my ELK till later in the year. Mark unfortunately didn't see a single bull elk. The next hunting trip was to my parents house about a week ago. We were going for deer and spent all of Friday and Saturday hunting before Mark finally shot a nice looking two point buck. Now it may not seem like much but the body was about the size of a four point. To our dismay we didn't see the 5x6 monster until we were pulling out Sunday morning. I will go hunting for my late season elk next week and it lasts until the end of the year. I am pretty excited to get a BIGGER game!
We have also done some other fun things this fall. I went to TIME OUT FOR WOMEN in Denver, CO with some of my very best friends and it was just was I needed... so many spiritual speakers and a lot of shopping! We had a lot of fun on Halloween. I had to work that day but at 4:00 I took Mireya and Kynlee up to the safe treat at the WYO Union. It was very crowded but fun. Then Mark and I and their parents took them to the Trunk r' Treat at the stake center. They loved this. We then went and spent the rest of the night at their house for dinner and some Halloween fun. It was a lot of fun to spend Halloween with the girls it makes a big difference spending a kid holiday with kids! We carved pumpkins twice this halloween... people kept inviting us over and we did carmel apples twice too. It was really fun to be with our friends on Halloween. Other than this we have just been working and trying to finish up the semester of school. We are ready for the break next week for Thanksgiving and excited to see all of our Family!

Where did the SUMMER go?

So the summer has come and gone and I didn't post on our blog once this summer. What a bummer huh I am pretty dissapointed. So to make up for lost time I plan on telling the story of the Gillies family summer 2011 right here and right now.

So to begin I guess I should probably tell you where we were what we did and how much fun we had! Mark and I stayed in Larmie this summer because we were both working here and I took a few online classes. Mark got a job working for Mikey Whelper doing lawn care at first then Mikey decided to take over a sprinkler system business so Mark got sent over to work with the previous owner to learn the ins and outs of sprinkler systems. He did this until about July and then he started doing a lot of landscaping type work. He got assigned on a project around Bishop Elison's house where they were building a five foot retaining wall all th way around the back yard. It ended up being about nine feet in one section with an additional terrace and some pretty cool steps going down to the back yard. It is pretty impressive because the guys learned how to build a retaining wall from some sort of youtube video!

Meanwhile I took two classes online that went towards my minor in Child and Family Studies. I took Intimate Relationships and Family Relationships. The classes where pretty interesting and I came away with a better understanding of my own relationship with my husband and the way that families function and relate to each other. I also worked at the same job that I had in the fall and spring last year. I babysat Mireya and Kynlee and cleaned three houses. My schedule was pretty relaxed and I had a lot of free time to garden, run, and play with some friends.

Speaking of our garden... it turned out to be pretty productive for a first go around gardening exprience. We planted tomatoes (roma, big boy, and cherry), california bell peppers, green onions, romain lettuce, sweet peas, green beans, yellow onions, cucumbers, and zuchini. It was a pretty full garden for the limited space we had but we actually got some produce. So far we have gotten two bell peppers, some lettuce, five cherry tomatoes- with more coming on right now, and we have two big boy tomatoes coming as well as quite a few green beans and a few small peas. I was pretty excited about how the garden turned out.

For the fourth of July we went camping with Amber and Bryan Whelper up as Veedawu. It was alot of fun we went hiking, geocaching and just hung out the whole time. We also went to the Party in Washington Park and hung out with my boss and her two little girls.

For my birthday I took my very first (on my own) road trip to my parents house. It was a very long drive on my own and I was a little nervous because I have never drove anywhere outside Laramie by myself without Mark since we got married. But non-the-less I made it to my parents and I got to hang out with my family for my birthday. My mom and I had a girls day we went to lunch and we got our nails done. It was a lot of fun! I enjoyed being with my family.

This summer I also got the opportunity to go to girls camp as a leader. The theme this year was "Be Your Own Kind Of Beautiful" and I had the opportunity to speak to all the girls in the stake about eating disorders and tell my own personal story about this addiction. This was a very emotional experience for me because only a few people know about this and now everyone in the stake who was there would know. It was really a neat experience for me to be able to share this experience and to now be able to help those who my message touched. I am grateful for my friend Jessica Richens who asked me to do this at camp and who has encouraged me every step of the way. The rest of camp was really fun! We went canoeing, shot archery, did tomahawk throw, and target shooting. I got to interact with my Young Women, scare them with the bear bucket, sing lots of silly camp songs, and grow spiritually from my experiences there.

The week after girls camp Mark and I got to go camping with Tony and Carilyn in the Uinta moutains. It was fun to be with my inlaws and in the mountains. We went fishing and had some yummy dutch oven. After we went camping we went and helped Bryan and Megan move into their new house. A few weeks later was my half marathon. We also went up for FHE one night and shot my new rifle that I got for my birthday with Kenzie and Dustin Barnes our friends. The rifle I got is a Savage Axis .243 camo stock synthetic! So excited to shoot it in a week on my antelope hunt!

Two weekends before school started my mom and Sam came down to move Sam into her new house with her new roommates. We made lots and lots of freezer jam this weekend it was alot of fun. We made 22 jars of raspberry, 15 jars of blackberry, 14 jars of strawberry, and 9 jars of blackberry/raspberry as well as a few jars of blackberry preserves and grape jelly. It is sooo fulfilling to make jar it is soooo sweet and yummy! We also went to the farmer's market and to my friend's wedding. This was a very fun weekend.

This summer I was training for a half marathon scheduled for August 20th in Springville, Utah called the Hobble Creek Half Marathon. All summer I was running either everyday or every other day. I got a pretty nice tan line on my legs from my shorts and an even better farmer's tan on my arms. The half marathon went really well and I had a blast running it! They bussed us up Hobble Creek canyon and we ran all the way down. I got fifth in my age group (19-24), 156th out of 1074 people, and I ran a PR time by 11 minutes of 1:38 minutes. When we went to the half marathon we stayed with Bryan and Megan in their new house. After I ran Mark and Bryan went golfing and Magan, Boston, and I went to Hogle zoo. It was alot of fun.

And then the monday following school started and we are back to the old grind! This was our fun and exciting summer. We got to spend quality time with our family and friends and with each other. Because isn't that what summer is all about.. kicking it with that family under the sun? I think so! Love ya'll!

Pictures will come shortly from the Gillies family Summer 2011! :)
