Update: Easton's OT

I am not sure that I proper updated everyone on the ins and outs of Occupational Therapy for Easton. In November we started having concerns about his sensory processing abilities. He was acting really stressed about noise and visual stimuli when we took him to the store. Easton has been seeing OT for his eating since a little after his second birthday so we talked to Renee and she suggested doing a sensory processing measure. WE completed the measure and the results suggest that Easton is having some sensory processing difficulties in the areas of Social Participation, Vision, Hearing, and Touch processing. Overall, Easton seems to be more sensitive to touch, texture, visual stimulation, and auditory stimulation- more than his peers. In social environments, when there are lots of people and noise, Easton becomes stressed and reacts by trying to leave the environment or acting out. He displays some sensory seeking behaviors (watching objects move, wanting to hear the same sounds repeatedly (the toilet flushing), seeking input from his body through jumping, crashing, pushing, pulling, etc. which is likely used to help him stay calm and prevent overstimulation. His sensitivity to tactile input may be limiting his willingness to try unfamiliar foods. While these sensory processing difficulties don't affect his motor planning, play ideas, and skills or his ability to learn new motor tasks the developmental team as well as we as his parents feel that it is important to address the difficulties and give him the tools to successfully process sensory stimulation. So far it has been a big guessing game and a process of elimination. We have a rather lengthy list of activities which we try with him to see if these things help him to be calm and avoid over stimulation. So far joint compressions, pushing/pulling heavy objects around the house, weighted blankets and lap buddy (rice bag for his lap), crashing, spinning, digging in the sand box, and massage seem to help him achieve a sense of calm. We are still experimenting with other activities and integrating them into his daily schedule. We feel extremely blessed for a developmental team who is willing to listen to our concerns and evaluate them in order to help Easton be successful. He is such a sweet boy and will more than likely grow out of this but for now we are grateful to have the tools and resources to help him through it.
Here he is with his favorite activity. A new sensory sand box complete with dinosaurs!

FHE: Prayer Banana Splits

Loving this stage with Easton of short and sweet family home evenings. Tonight we learned about prayer with banana splits. You start with opening the banana and say "Dear Heavenly Father". Next you load the split with ice cream- the " thank you's which are the bulk of our prayers- Easton says thank you for his family, toys, fire trucks, cars, elk, anything on his mind! Next the fun toppings like caramel, hot fudge, nuts, and sprinkles are asking for the things you may need-for Easton it is help listening to mommy & daddy, having good dreams, etc etc. Finally you top it with whip cream- in the name of Jesus Christ, Amen. Easton says the cutest prayers! And loved this lesson especially the treat!

Trip to Ivinson Memorial

This little guy can't catch a break! Either that or he has grown fond of hospitals in his short 3 month life;) Poor baby had to spend the night in the Family Care Unit because he had para bronchial thickening caused by a virus in his respiratory system frown emoticon He didn't have to go on oxygen even with the dips in his O2 levels through the night. Lots of wall suction and we get to go home today on steroids!

Graysen {3 months old}

Graysen turned 3 months old on the 7th {one of these days i'll be on time} he is our happy little baby! He loves to smile and is starting to giggle- it's the darn cutest thing ever! He is fascinated with lights and his big brother. He is starting to like his play mat and likes to swat at the toys overhead. He isn't a big fan of tummy time and arches his back and squeals until we eventually pick him up. He LOVES to be held and thinks he should be snuggled all day long! I don't actually mind! He thinks he is so big and likes to stand and sit with assistance. He weighs just over 11 lbs and is growing like a weed which of course makes me a little sad! We love our little smiley boy... spit up and all!

New Years Cosmic Bowling {with those Asay Animals ;)}

Today we went over to Charlene & Matthew's for the day. We had some laughs while Charlene yet again entertained us with her Wii moves, saw their ever growing animal herd, ate pizza, and went cosmic bowling. We really enjoyed our visit with family over Christmas break!
Loving the goats!
Easton loves animals! He can call them by name and tell us what they say so this trip over to the Asay farm was a thrill for him! He loves playing with his Chlo Chlo too!
Easton loves Chloe!
Charlene has sweet real bowling moves too ;)
Love my family! And.... selfies apparently haha!
